Zaira Wasim reacts sharply to Vijay Goel's tweet: Do not connect me to discourteous depiction

Dangal actor Zaira Wasim slammed Union Minister Vijay Goel after he tagged her in a painting which showed a burqa-clad woman next to a woman in a bird cage.

The minister tweeted a photo of the painting showing burkha-clad women, terming it a story similar to that of Wasim’s and said, “Our daughters are breaking out of cages and moving forward.”

Zaira Wasim sharply reacted to the tweet by first asking the minister to not associate her with the image and then said that she disagreed with such a depiction of women in hijab.

Goel later said that he appreciated the young actress and that his tweet was misinterpreted. “You have interpreted wrong. I appreciated your work and stated that evil and patriarchal notions must be discouraged. I’m afraid you still haven’t understood. But I wish you all the very best and appreciate your work. Hope to meet & interact too.”

Here are Goel’s tweets related to the episode.

Wasim was earlier in the news for issuing a public apology letter on her social media accounts for ‘hurting sentiments’ of people days after meeting Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti. She was reportedly getting threats from fundamentalists separatists in the state.
